The Archdiocese of New Orleans Commission for Persons with Disabilities (ACPD) acts on behalf of persons with disabilities to assist the pastor in his role of inviting people to full membership and to share fully in the life of the Parish. Advocates are appointed by the Pastor to serve as liaison between persons with disabilities, their families, their parish, and the Archdiocesan Commission for Persons with Disabilities.
Through our witness, support, and sharing of knowledge and resources we provide a more meaningful, fruitful, and lifelong encounter with Christ for individuals living with disabilities and their families.
1. Every parish will have a parish advocate to facilitate meaningful participation of parishioners with disabilities.
2. Parish disability advocates will receive training and resources.
3. Church leaders will become educated about and supportive of including persons with disabilities in church life.
4. There will be broader acceptance of people with disabilities in our church ministries.
5. There will be increased access to the facilities, ministries, and services of the church.
6. Individuals with disabilities and families will be full, active participants in all aspects of our church community.
