Sacramental records

Archdiocesan parishes maintain their own records. To view a map and contact information of open parishes, view the ParishFinder.

The Office of Archives and Records holds most sacramental registers that end prior to 1930. Some early 20th-century registers that also include later entries still remain in individual church parishes. All current sacramental records (post 1930) are maintained in individual church parishes. If you are requesting current records from a parish not reopened after Katrina or a parish that has recently merged, please check this list to determine if we hold the record you are requesting.

For any Baptisms, First Communions, Confirmations or Marriages completed on a U.S Military base, you will need to contact the Archdiocese for Military Services for your records.

Sacramental records less than 100 years old are private records and may only be requested by the person named in the record. Records older than 100 years are considered historical records. To request a historical record, see our genealogy page.

The requestor of a non-historical record is the person authorizing release and must be named in the record or must be the legal guardian or parent of a minor child. Anyone else must show power of attorney.
