The Archdiocese of New Orleans, through the CYO/Youth & Young Adult Ministry Office, is organizing a young adult pilgrimage to World Youth Day 2023, the international gathering by Pope Francis which will be held in Lisbon, Portugal.
The pilgrimage is scheduled to depart from New Orleans on Saturday, July 29, 2023 and return from Lisbon on Monday, August 7, 2023.
This pilgrimage is open to young adults who will be 18 years of age before July 22, 2023. (While "young adult" regularly means 18 - 39 years old, we will have room for some "young at heart" adults, too!)
The proposed schedule is as follows:
Saturday, July 29, 2023 |
Depart for Lisbon from Louis Armstrong International Airport |
Sunday, July 30 |
Arrive in Lisbon, have a panoramic tour of the city, plus an Opening Mass and Dinner |
Monday, July 31 |
Day trip to Fatima and visit to the Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima |
Tuesday, August 1 |
The World Youth Day celebration begins with the Opening Mass |
Wednesday, August 2 - Friday, August 4 | Our pilgrimage group will take part in catechesis sessions, exploring the World Youth Day events in Lisbon, welcoming the Holy Father on Thursday, Aug. 3, & other group activities. |
Saturday, August 5 | The NOLACatholic young adult group will join in the journey to the pilgrimage site for the Saturday prayer vigil and overnight stay outdoors. |
Sunday, August 6 | The XXXVIII World Youth Day will take place with a Mass celebrated by Pope Francis and attended by youth and young adults from around the world. We return from the site and share in a Closing Dinner together. |
Monday, August 7 | Return trip to New Orleans |
The Archdiocese of New Orleans is partnering with Verso Ministries to assist us in providing a quality pilgrimage experience that will help us be witnesses of the Gospel to our community upon our return.
